Distribuidora Maritima Petrogas S.A.

The oil tanker Mencey from the Spanish shipping company Distribuidora Maritima Petrogas S.A. was contracted by EMSA for stand-by oil pollution response in Madeira and the Canary Islands. MT Mencey serves the area based in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to be mobilised within 24 hrs to an oil pollution alarm.

Mencey was fitted with equipment for containment, recovery, temporary storage and also chemical treatment of the oil pollution. “Petrogas is the leading company in the sea transport of oil based products in the Canary Islands. We operate several vessels and in order to meet the strict requirements of the contract responsibilities we are glad to have Akela support us in training of our seafarers, for both oil pollution response and SAR operations.”, says Jose Rull Cullen, General Director of Petrogas.

MT Mencey, while engaged in daily commercial operations, can be mobilised within maximum 24 hrs in the event of an oil spill the commercial operation and the vessel is available to assist local authorities with oil spill recovery.
