Maritime Communication

Akela provides military-grade shipborne short-range communication systems to the Bangladesh Navy, enabling effective communication between sea and harbor units. The systems offer voice, data-link, encryption, and frequency hopping capabilities with a rugged design. Akela will handle delivery, installation, and training for the Navy vessels. Lamor, Red Sea area, Saudi Arabia

Lamor Corporation PLC is working with Akela to enhance the oil spill response capabilities in the Red Sea area. The initiative includes resource assessment, contingency planning, responder training, and marine and aviation asset management. This effort aligns with the region’s environmental protection goals, crucial given the Red Sea’s pristine coastline and growing tourism sector. Lamor has established bases, vessels, aircraft, and trained over 1,100 local experts and responders, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental safety.

Global Foundation Certificate 

The Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt collaborates with Akela to provide high-level training in maintenance practices for the Oil & Gas and maritime sector. The College of Engineering & Technology has received accreditation to train students and industry professionals in alignment with OPITO Global Qualifications standards. This partnership is instrumental in preparing a skilled workforce for Egypt’s emerging industries.

Distribuidora Maritima Petrogas S.A.

The oil tanker Mencey, operated by Distribuidora Maritima Petrogas S.A., is on standby for oil pollution response in Madeira and the Canary Islands. Equipped for containment, recovery, and chemical treatment, it undergoes regular training for oil spill response and search and rescue operations. The company is committed to swift, effective environmental protection.

Ecopetrol, Colombia

Ecopetrol S.A., a key player in Colombia’s oil and gas sector, faces environmental challenges due to frequent attacks by militant groups, leading to oil spills and environmental damage. Training and preparedness are crucial in minimizing the impact. In 2013, a training mission in Cartagena aimed to enhance response efficiency. Jorge Delgado from Ecopetrol acknowledges the importance of such efforts.

DC Cloedt, Belgium

DC Dredging BV specializes in dredging and producing marine aggregates and sand. Their fleet of vessels is equipped to respond to oil spills and they prioritize crew training. Partnered with Akela for oil spill response training, they ensure top performance. Their collaboration with EMSA and Rijkwaterstaat highlights their commitment to safety and excellence.

The name Akela, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s wise wolf leader, embodies peace, wisdom, and leadership. Derived from Swahili, Old German, Hebrew, and Hawaiian, it symbolizes nobility, happiness, luck, charm, and intelligence. Additionally, in Cub Scouts, Akela represents guidance and authority, connecting Pekka’s childhood experiences and the company’s ethos.

AKELA & AASTMT JV

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) was established in 1970 with support from the Arab League countries and the UNDP. Overcoming funding challenges, it has evolved into a world-class university for Maritime Transport and Higher Education. A partnership with Akela aims to establish an Oil and Gas Institute to provide internationally accredited training.

Major Emergency Management

The Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt, in collaboration with Akela, has achieved international accreditations for high-level training in the oil & gas and maritime sectors. Stena Oil to the rescue

Stena Oil, a leading bunker oil supplier in the Nordic countries, has partnered with the EU to handle oil spills in Nordic waters. Their vessel, MT Norden, is equipped and crew-trained for swift oil spill response. After extensive preparations and successful bidding, Stena’s dedication and readiness have exceeded EMSA’s stringent demands, ensuring high-quality service.

Wintershall DEA AG, Germany

In 2019, Wintershall Dea emerged from the fusion of Wintershall Holding GmbH and DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG, now boasting 2,800 employees from 60+ countries. Their Mittelplate project, a leading endeavor off the German North Sea, epitomizes eco-friendly oil production. As Germany’s primary oil field, it secures half of the nation’s oil output and aligns with environmental preservation.

Marine Rescue Centre

Russian Marine Rescue (MRS) in Moscow, Russia, is the primary sea rescue company for Russian transport. MRS partnered with AKELA to enhance their training facilities and offer OPITO BOSIET type training. AKELA upgraded the facility with simulators, equipment, and train-the-trainer services, including indoor pool modifications for HUET training. The project was completed in late 2017.

Turn-key fully equipped maritime training centre

The Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University (MSU), established in 1890, is a leading Asia-Pacific university. It offers comprehensive training in natural sciences, humanities, engineering, and marine areas. After extensive planning, MSU is establishing a state-of-the-art training center, with Wärtsilä/Transas and Akela chosen as equipment suppliers. The center will feature advanced simulation and safety training facilities.
