The Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (also known as AASTMT or AAST) and Akela work together towards international high-level training accreditations, trainer qualifications and training development to match the current and future needs of the local and regional Oil & Gas and maritime sector in Alexandria, Egypt.

AASTMT has received the Global Foundation Certificate to provide much sought aIer competence to provide training for both academy students and other candidates in maintenance & work practices according to the OPITO Industry Standards and Global Qualifications. The tremendous team effort by the College of Engineering & Technology staff is now rewarded and AASTMT is now well appointed to lead the way for training skilled workforce for the current and new industries emerging in Egypt.

OPITO Global Qualifications potfVolio consists of training certificates and vocational qualifications to develop skills and competencies within operations and maintenance activities, across the energy sectors. The industry-led approach provides a flexible framework with specifically designed, recognised qualifica5ons, that can be benchmarked against existing national and regional frameworks.
When first evaluated for approval, the College of Engineering & Technology was identified as well equipped with its facilities and equipment matching the requirement by OPITO. The college staff has been hard at work to develop the necessary curriculum and closing any gaps to meet the requirements for delivering OPITO technical programs, starting with training certificate courses for Basic Maintenance Practices and Introduction to Maintenance Workshop Practice.
The College of Engineering & Technology mission is to prepare young generations for the requirements of the knowledge based societies. The college has market-driven academic programs and strong collaboration with industry and maintains and develops long term and lasting partnerships with Arab institutions, and interna5onally acknowledged bodies.

Captain Ashraf Halawa is the Head of Oil and Gas Technology Program and serves also as Vice Dean for Foreign Affairs at Maritime Safety Institute. After sailing the seven seas and further education at the World Maritime University in Sweden, Capt Ashraf returned to Egypt and has been working diligently towards developing and achieving international high-level standard training at AASTMT Maritime Safety Institute.
Capt. Ashraf has lead his team over many obstacles in the past years and the recent accreditations are a testament of his stamina and work ethic. As for Akela, Capt. Ashraf is pleased that not only do we have a common goal but that we are joined in our belief that goodness and kindness are more important than fame and fortune.
