ABOUT US

Our Roots

Pekka-Pietari established Akela in 2008.  Before that Pekka worked in Europe, Africa, Americas and Oceania, both with established fast growing companies and start-ups alike, with focus on Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Government (B2G) projects. Pekka thanks all his former employers and current partners and customers for the chances to excel, reach for challenging targets and aim to make a difference.

Today Akela continues work with innovative people and develops new concepts for training. Akela has formed several key partnerships combining international expertise with local knowledge and skills.

Our Mission

Akela loves to work with Health, Safety and Environment innovations; with special focus on offshore and maritime activities, safety and survival training and oil spill recovery. Akela is committed to help our customers to improve work place safety, work methods and skills, at the same time protecting the environment by introducing new ideas, technology and training methods.

Our History

Akela is a family company. The founder, Pekka, is married to Kirsten, a wonderful South-African-German girl, and together with their now adult children Kai and Mia we continue to live, work and enjoy life’s adventures, so far spanning four continents and four nationalities.

  • akela.band
Akela, once thwarted by IBM’s domain ownership, has now flourished into a trusted provider of training services for major companies and organizations worldwide. With a touch of humor, we thank the original domain owner for their “NO” in 2008, leading them to creatively brand as akelaband.com and now, newly, as akela.band.
  • elephant in the room
In 2008, the Akelaband website featured Prof Randy Pausch’s inspiring “The Last Lecture.” Despite battling terminal cancer, he imparted wisdom on pursuing dreams. Sadly, he passed away just three months after Akela’s founding. His legacy lives on through his powerful message: Never give up on your dreams! Watch his lecture for profound inspiration.
  • we’ll be apples
In 2009, Akela’s founder Pekka had a bright idea to raise funds for a local school by turning ripening apples into juice and selling it. With generous donations and hard work, they pressed and sold over 3300 bottles, kickstarting the school’s fundraising. This heartwarming initiative, continuing for years, shows the power of community and the joy of helping others. Cheers to apples and shared juice!
