The name Akela, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s wise wolf leader, embodies peace, wisdom, and leadership. Derived from Swahili, Old German, Hebrew, and Hawaiian, it symbolizes nobility, happiness, luck, charm, and intelligence. Additionally, in Cub Scouts, Akela represents guidance and authority, connecting Pekka’s childhood experiences and the company’s ethos.
we’ll be apples
In 2009, Akela’s founder Pekka had a bright idea to raise funds for a local school by turning ripening apples into juice and selling it. With generous donations and hard work, they pressed and sold over 3300 bottles, kickstarting the school’s fundraising.
